The film is a remake of the science fiction classic of the same name produced in 1951. Jennifer Connelly plays the character of an astrobiologist, Helen Benson. Jaden Smith plays the role of her stepson. The government officials call this child forth in order to sound him out on an extremely secret matter. This happens to be a very unceremonious occasion for Benson. There is a strange turn of events when a huge glowing sphere emerges atop the Central Park. There is also a gigantic protector named Gort accompanied by an alien called Klaatu. He adopts a human form in order to effectively communicate with the residents of this planet.

Soon Klaatu realizes that hard-hearted and frigid officials surround him. He decides to befriend Benson and her son. Meanwhile the destiny of the planet lies in grave danger.
