It’s October 2008, The Girlfriend Experience depicts five days in the life of a high-priced Manhattan escort/call girl in the days prior to the Presidential Elections, Christine/Chelsea (Sasha Grey). She thinks she has everything under control. Christine’s services offer the entire “girlfriend” package – for a price. Concerned about the economy, Christine consults with financial and marketing professionals for advice on how to boost her profile and her income. However, the economy isn’t all she’s dealing with. She also navigates the more “normal” relationship issues with her boyfriend, Chris (Chris Santos), who seems to be okay with what Christine does for a living – until she goes away with a client for the weekend. Chris has his own business concerns to deal with in the course of the movie. He’s a professional trainer, always looking for new and better avenues for revenue. This movie is all about the hustle and the marketing and the transactions that go along with everyday life. It’s capitalism in its most raw form. Considering the content and star of the movie, there is surprisingly no sex and minimal nudity.
