‘Whatever Works’ is a classic Woody Allen film, typified by its underlying wit and humor. Larry David plays the character of Boris Yellnikof. This man has a highly cynical nature and is much like Woody Allen himself. Boris is a physicist and exhibits suicidal tendencies too. He is a very analytical person and this attitude of his gives rise to several comical situations in his everyday life. Especially when he decides to abandon his upper-class life for something more bohemian. He meets Melodie St. Anne Celestine played by Evan Rachel Wood. This twenty-one-year-old girl from Mississippi brings about a transformation in the overall personality of this balding man. Just when he’s finally accepting Melodie, he has to deal with her parents played by Ed Begely, Jr. and Patricia Clarkson.
Viewers also get to see the different styles in which Allen has captured his favorite muse, New York City. In a typical Woody Allen style, the several mysteries surrounding the various concepts of Love, life, sex and death is handled.
