Cold Case centers on the career of Lilly Rush, a Philadelphia Police homicide detective. She and her fellow detectives: Will Jeffries, Scotty Valens, and Nick Vera, investigate crimes that have gone unsolved – sometimes for decades. She often seeks advice from Lt. John Stillman, her boss and mentor. Each show establishes the crime in the time frame its committed then jumps back and forth between the past and the present investigation as Lilly and the other detectives go through the evidence and new material that prompts a new investigation. They often use new technology to reexamine old evidence. She and her team work diligently to close every case they reopen, knowing that wherever the investigation takes them, they will reopen old wounds. In some cases, their investigation causes the perpetrator to commit new crimes. No matter the outcome, Lilly’s determined that no victim would ever be forgotten.
