The movie The Lovely Bones is centered around a murdered young girl who watches over her family as well as the killer, from heaven – or a heaven-like place. She was fourteen years old and murdered by her own neighbor in suburban Pennsylvania. The teen tells her story from heaven. She describes the lives of those around her and how they’ve managed since she left and as they attempt to find her body.
The film is an adaptation of the 2002 novel by Alice Sebold. In the movie, the main character, Susie Salmon, can observe her family and the murderer as he gets ready to kill again after covering his tracks so well. The father is obsessed with the murderer while the mother moves away to somehow try and cope and escape all the pain. The victim can see all this, and struggles to balance her vengeance on the serial killer and her hop for her family to be able to recover. Susie is played by Saiose Ronan. Mark Waholberg plays Jack Salmon while Abigail Salmon is played by Rachel Weisz. Directed by PeterJackson, the 2009 New Zealand/American/British drama will finally be in theatres here in the states!
